Randall Dragonflies Junior Garden ClubThe 2009-10 school year marks the 10th consecutive year for the Randall Dragonflies Junior Garden Club. An after school program for 3rd graders. Through a variety of fun-filled educational programs, the children learn about gardening, the environment, and how the two are related. Special events include a field trip to U of M’s “Tap the Sap” participation in a formal flower show, and a spring Madhatter’s tea and luncheon. The children also create and donate special nature projects to veterans, the elderly and the Children’s Hospital of Michigan’s Festival of Trees. A summer project was initiated in 2008 where students planted and maintained a vegetable garden at Heritage Park’s Goodwill Garden. One of their art projects, a sand cast concrete bird bath, was donated and currently decorates one of the entrances to the garden. The Dragonflies is an outgrowth of the Federated Garden Clubs of Michigan and is partially sponsored by the Taylor Garden Club. Meetings are held every second Tuesday of the month during the school year from 3:45-5 p.m. Parents and volunteers are always welcome to attend.
